VOICES OF THE AMERICAN PAST is a two-volume reader that presents a variety of diverse perspectives through more than 230 primary sources. Excerpts from speeches, letters, journals, political cartoons, magazine articles, hearings immigration primary source and government documents raise issues from both public immigration primary source and private aspects of American life throughout history. A Guide to Reading immigration primary source and Interpreting Documents in the front matter explains how immigration primary source and why historians use primary source evidence, immigration primary source and outlines basic points to help students learn to analyze sources. The volumes are organized chronologically into 31 chapters, with the Reconstruction chapter overlapping in both volumes -- corresponding to the splits of most survey texts. In this new Third Edition, the selection of new documents was guided by the editors` desire to provide greater diversity of voices while also offering readable selections that speak to larger issues. This edition offers well known primary sources such as Federalist 10 immigration primary source and President Eisenhower`s farewell address, as well as Cotton Mather`s admonitions on the evils of self-pollution, a woman`s description of the southern homefront during the Civil War, John Muir`s essay on American forests, immigration primary source and recent East Asian immigrant`s description of life in America. Primary immigration - Primary immigration is a term which describes the movement of the earner of a family, or a young unattached single man, from one country to another, usually to improve their economic condition. Once the primary immigrant is established in the new country, they will often send for their family to come and join them (perhaps many years later).

Primary source - Fire fire fire fire A primary source is any piece of information that is used for constructing history as an artifact of its times. These often include works created by someone who witnessed first-hand or was part of the historical events that are being described, but can also include physical objects like coins, journal entries, letters, or newspaper articles.

Tertiary source - Where a primary source presents material from a first-hand witness to a phenomenon, and a secondary source provides commentary, analysis and criticism of primary sources, a tertiary source is a selection and compilation of primary and secondary sources. While the distinction between primary source and secondary source is essential in historiography, the distinction between these sources of evidence and tertiary sources is more peripheral.

Voltage source - A voltage source is any device or system that produces an electromotive force between its terminals OR derives a secondary voltage from a primary source of the electromotive force. A primary voltage source does not need external power to operate, whereas most electronic voltage sources (as depicted in this article) are of the 'secondary' type and require an external energy source.
